Saskatchewan teachers are encouraged to spread their message and volunteer during their two-day walkout.

Regina teacher Ryan Josephson says the Saskatchewan Teachers Federation (STF) has urged the province’s teachers to write letters, make posters and share their message on social media sites.

At STF’s suggestion, Joseph says he and his fellow teachers will spend their time donating blood, cleaning up their community, volunteering at food banks and bringing treats to local fire departments.

On Thursday, a rally will be held at the provincial legislature at 9 a.m. Teachers and supporters will then take their rally to Victoria Park.

Students rally in support of teachers Wednesday

Arden Johnson, a 17-year-old Sheldon Williams students from Regina, organized a small rally outside the provincial legislative building Wednesday.

“We wanted to show the government that we actually do care that we’re out of school…we just want our teachers back,” he said.

As many as 20 students held up signs asking drivers to honk their car horns for support.

Chad Stanton insists teachers here are among the best in Canada and that's how they should be paid.

Nathan Patton, 17, echoed Stanton’s sentiments, noting teachers are important for students’ development.

“Really they guide us and help us get through our future,” said Patton.

None of the students expressed concern about possibilities like an extension of the school year.

Teachers continue to rally

Some teachers gathered in Regina on Wednesday for what they called “social media day” in Wascana Centre. Many placed placards on Regina's Albert Street and on the step of the legislature.

In Saskatoon, some teachers were in Meewasin Park.
